Background[ | ]

Alette hood.icon

Dons her hood to be someone else.

Saga 1[ | ]

Rook's daughter, Alette, only vaguely remembers her mother, who died when she was a child. Since then, Alette spends most of her time with her father, unimpressed by the traditional roles of other girls in town. She hopes to become a hunter like her father, and in her spare time she practices archery with Oddleif, the wife of Skogr's chieftain, who has become a motherly figure to her.

Saga 2[ | ]

Since the tragic events in Boersgard, the families of the caravan look to Alette, daughter of Rook, the former leader, to guide them. Though young, her compassion for others and ability with a bow have impressed all but the most stubborn clan leaders. Calling on her personal resolve and lifetime friendships with the archer Oddleif and the varl Iver, Alette must continue her father's work of seeing the caravan to the safety of Arberrang.

Icon threadtheneedle

Active Ability: Thread the Needle[ | ]

By selecting an enemy in a straight line up to 5 spaces, Alette shoots through every character in the way, doing normal Strength damage to each, in addition to bonus Armor and Puncture damage.

Thread the Needle is one of few abilities that can damage multiple enemies in a single shot, making it extremely powerful in the right hands. Even though it also hits allies, using Thread the Needle in tandem with some abilities, like the Raidmaster's Stone Wall, can be a good combination.

Rank 1: +1 armor damage

Rank 2: +2 armor damage

Rank 3: +3 armor damage

Icon overwatch

Active Ability: Overwatch[ | ]

  • Alette gains the Overwatch ability when promoted to Rank 6.

Alette nocks an arrow and waits. Any enemy who moves within her bow's range will be struck by her deadly missiles.

Alette sacrifices her immediate attack for the chance to set up attacks against multiple foes. It's also useful defensively, since every enemy who comes into range will be attacked for one Round.

Rank 1: Regular Strength damage

Rank 2: Regular Strength damage, +1

Rank 3: Regular Strength damage, +2

Note: Unlike the Rain of Arrows, the enemy unit will continue its Turn (move, attack, use ability) after Alette's Overwatch attack.

Icon mend

Extra Active Ability: Mend[ | ]

Alette can optionally gain the Mend ability in the second part of The Banner Saga, if she accepts to train with Eyvind. Her alternative is to choose her father's path, that of the Hunter, which increases her max attack range from 5 to 6.

Puncture icon

Passive Ability: Puncture[ | ]

By standing still, the Archer is able to line up a shot that takes advantage of an enemies missing Armor, doing bonus damage.

For every 2 points of armor her target has lost, the Archer gains 1 additional Strength damage to her attack, as long as she didn't move beforehand. This makes her especially deadly near the end of a fight, or against tough opponents who have lost a lot of armor.

Joining the Party[ | ]

Possible Death or Departure[ | ]

Alette can die after the first part of final battle of Chapter 7, if you decide she will carry Silver Arrow. In case Rook dies instead, Alette is called forth to lead the Skogr caravan and becomes a POV hero in the second part of The Banner Saga.

Alette will die in chapter 20 if you open the gates for the dredge, unless you have the dredge baby from the first game.

Playstyle[ | ]

Thread the Needle in combination with Puncture can cause tremendous amounts of damage. However, correctly positioning Alette as well as arranging for enemies to 'fall in line' for her to pierce them, is no easy task. Moreover, killing multiple weakened enemies might not always be desirable. Turn Advantage is the culprit here; refer to the Tactical Strategy guide for more insight.

  • It is advised to promote Alette to Rank 5, since she will take a part in final battle.
  • If you plan to get Innocent achievement, only bring Alette to fights against Dredge (not Humans or Varl), and do not accept Onef into your party.

Overwatch ability is very strong (bordering on imbalanced) when Alette is equipped with Knockback items, like Stravhs' Bond. When an enemy comes into range she attacks him/her; if the damage is 3 or more, the unit will also be knocked 4 tiles back, which will actually terminate the enemy unit's Turn.

Survival Mode[ | ]

In the Survival Mode of the second part of The Banner Saga, Alette gets to choose between the Overwatch and Mend ability when promoted to Rank 6.

Trivia[ | ]
